What is a Registered Massage Therapist?
A Registered Massage Therapist is an individual who has completed an extensive program with a minimum of 2200 hours which includes the study of anatomy, physiology, pathology, kinesiology, and hydrotherapy. They will be registered with the College of Massage Therapist of Ontario (CMTO) in accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act and the Massage Therapy Act. Massage therapy is a regulated health profession in Ontario therefore RMTs are primary health care professionals. To maintain their high level of knowledge Massage Therapist, take part in the CMTO’s quality assurance program which ensures a therapist keeps up to date with their knowledge and practice.
The College of Massage Therapists of Ontario is the regulator established by the provincial government to regulate the practice of Massage Therapy and to govern the conduct of Registered Massage Therapists (RMTs) in the province of Ontario through the provisions of the Regulated Health Professions Act, 1991 (RHPA) and the Massage Therapy Act, 1991.
